The Old Cook's Brae
The Old Cook's Brae links the High Row and Laigh (Low) Row at Port Logan, Wigtownshire, where the Cook and Robb families lived. It would have been muddy and steep, the cousins found it ideal for winter sports!
Laigh Row features in a BBC1 series “ Two Thousand Acres of Sky.” It is supposed to be set in Ronandsay in the Hebrides, but we know better! We cheer each time we see the dear old cottages and the harbour.“The Port Logan Inn” also features in some shots of the series.
The Mull of Galloway is Scotland's most southerly point and is one of its least known parts, remaining an unspoiled paradise for visitors seeking peace and tranquillity. I recommend you to explore their web site to find out more.
The Old Cook's Brae
by William Robb 1852- 1929
- O Master, when the time comes round
- to wake me up again,
- when I am conscious made of sight and sound,
- of sunshine and of rain.
- Wake me up with the dear old Dad,
- and the mother we learned to love,
- who strode manfully on through good and bad,
- with a hopeful heart above.
- Wake me up on the old Port Road
- next the old Cook's Brae so steep,
- with the girls and boys of my childhood joys
- -if not, I would rather sleep.
